Barnet Local Info

The London Borough of Barnet is a London borough in North London and forms part of Outer London. It has a population of 331,500 and covers 86.74 square kilometres (33 sq mi). It borders Hertfordshire to the north and five other London boroughs: Harrow and Brent to the west, Camden and Haringey to the south-east and Enfield to the east. The borough was formed in 1965 from parts of the counties of Middlesex and Hertfordshire.

Barnet has two Grade I Listed buildings, both designed by Edwin Lutyens: the Church of St Jude, the parish church of Hampstead Garden Suburb with a Gothic spire and on opposite side of Central Square, the Free Church, of similar design but with a concrete dome. Royal Air Force Museum is a museum built on part of the site of Hendon Aerodrome, dedicated to the history of aviation, and the British Royal Air Force in particular. Church Farmhouse museum on Greyhound hill is a grade II* listed 17th century farmhouse used by Barnet Council as an exhibition space. Friern Hospital was an large Victorian psychiatric hospital located in Friern Barnet, which has been converted into flats.
